Nebraska junior Gina Mancuso was named to the Mideast Region first team, while sophomore Morgan Broekhuis, junior Lauren Cook and junior Hannah Werth were named honorable mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Mancuso, a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten pick, led Nebraska in kills with 407, ranking in the top 10 in the conference. She averaged 3.60 kills and 2.66 digs per set. Mancuso notched at least 10 kills in 25 matches this season, while posting a career-high of 24 kills against Colorado State.
Iowa State’s Carly Jenson, Alison Landwehr and Jamie Straube were named to the All-Central Region team. Libero Kristen Hahn earned an AVCA all-region honorable mention.
Jenson, who leads the Cyclones (24-9) with 3.88 kills per set, finished third in kills per set in Big 12 play and second in points per set. The senior from Millard North is the only Cyclone to play a full rotation this season with 3.25 digs per set, second on the team. Jenson was also second in the league this season with an average of 0.28 aces per set against conference opponents.
At the helm of Iowa State’s 5-1 offense, Landwehr averaged a Big 12-best 11.8 assists per set in her second season as starting setter. The St. Louis native is one of three Big 12 players to record more than 60 assists in a conference match this season, with a career-high 64 assists at Oklahoma.
Straube leads the Cyclones this season in hitting at .338, the second-highest single-season percentage in Iowa State history. Straube, from Tecumseh, closed the regular season fifth in hitting against Big 12 foes and leading the conference with 0.39 aces per set. Through two NCAA tournament matches, the junior is smashing kills at a rate of 4.50 per set and hitting .490.
On Friday, the Cyclones head to Minneapolis to play Minnesota in the NCAA round of 16 at 7 p.m.
