Carnage (R) Roman Polanski directs this adapted stage play ("God of Carnage") about two sets of upper-middle-class New York City parents who behave badly when they meet after their sons' schoolground fight. A high-powered cast (Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz) fails to produce many laughs. Lots of profanity, but OK for mature teens. 2 stars.
The Iron Lady (PG-13) Meryl Streep is stunningly good as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, portraying her across four decades. The movie is told in flashback as octogenarian Thatcher, suffering from dementia, looks back at her life. A superlative character study that's less about politics. Fine for teens. 3 stars.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (R) Based on the John LeCarre novel, this Cold War-era spy thriller crackles with strong acting, bursts of violence and a script that often leaves you in the dark. Gary Oldman gives a standout performance as George Smiley, ferreting out a double agent atop British intelligence. Nudity, violence. 3.5 stars.
