LINCOLN — For the first time since 2007, the Nebraska softball team is one of the 25 squads ranked in two major preseason polls.
The Huskers will start the year at No. 20, according to the ESPN/USA Softball poll. The NFCA/USA Today poll has them ranked 21st.
Michigan is the only other Big Ten team ranked (15th/16th). Ohio State and Northwestern did receive votes.
The Wolverines aren't on Nebraska's 2012 regular season schedule, but NU is set to face at least nine ranked teams this season — including top 15 foes Washington and Arizona during the season's opening weekend.
Nebraska begins action on Feb. 9 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Huskers return eight starters from a team that reached an NCAA Regional final last season.
