Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini was driving through a Lincoln intersection Wednesday evening when another driver struck his SUV, according to police.
Neither Pelini nor 63-year-old Beverly Claus was hurt.
“Coach is fine, car is not,” Greg Sharpe said in a Tweet. Sharpe is the radio voice of Husker football and baseball.
Lincoln police estimated Pelini's 2010 Nissan Armada sustained $3,500 in damage. Claus' 2007 Hyundai Tuscon sustained about $6,000 in damage.
According to the police report:
Pelini was driving east on Old Cheney Road just before 6 p.m. At the 34th Street intersection, he drove through a yellow light at about 40 mph.
Claus didn't see Pelini's SUV, attempted to turn left from a westbound lane of Old Cheney onto 34th Street, and struck the Armada in the intersection.
The accident became a hot Twitter topic among Husker fans.
Sharpe said in an interview that Pelini was on his way to a speaking engagement in La Vista.
Sharpe said Pelini, 44, joked about the crash at the dinner, held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center.
