World-Herald staff members were recognized at three competitions this month for their reporting, photography, design and headlines.
World-Herald headline writers won three awards at the 2012 American Copy Editors Society convention in New Orleans.
A collection of 10 World-Herald headlines from 2011 placed second in the staff competition for papers with circulations between 80,000 and 160,000.
Nick Piastowski, the deputy sports editor, placed second in the individual category, and news copy editor Rich Mills finished third.
In the North American Agricultural Journalism writing contest, reporter David Hendee earned a third-place award in features and honorable mention recognition in news. The awards were presented at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
On Friday, The World-Herald was recognized for 11 wins and 15 finalist honors in the annual Great Plains Journalism Awards competition in Tulsa, Okla.
The Tulsa Press Club and Benevolent Association sponsors the awards. Journalists from newspapers and magazines from eight states — Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota — enter their best work from the past calendar year.
