    A leg injury will force two-sport athlete Khiry Cooper to sit out the season with the Nebraska baseball team, head coach Darin Erstad announced Thursday. Cooper suffered the injury while contributing as a wide receiver for the football team last fall. He had to be helped off the field after the first offensive snap in the third quarter against Penn State on Nov. 12.

Or maybe it was the ailing shoulder that ultimately required surgery. Or perhaps Nebraska's coaching change. At some point last year, former Husker pitcher Logan Ehlers lost his passion for baseball. He realized he needed a fresh start, something to revive his competitive spirit after an adversity-filled start to his collegiate career.

    Husker banquet set for Feb. 3

    The Husker Home Run Club’s preseason banquet is set for Feb. 3 at the Embassy Suites in La Vista. The event includes dinner and remarks from new coach Darin Erstad and the NU coaching staff, while members of the team will also be present. The event begins with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 6:30 p.m. The event’s keynote speaker will be former Husker and current Minnesota Twins pitcher Brian Duensing.

    Creighton strengthened its backcourt for the future with the signing of three players Wednesday to national letters of intent. Guard Andre Yates signed Wednesday night at a family get-together, while guard Isaiah Zierden and guard-forward Tevin Calhoun signed Wednesday morning. "I can't wait to get on campus," Yates said in a text message confirming his signing.
