Werth leads Huskers past Cal Poly
The No. 7 Nebraska volleyball team improved to 2-0 at the BYU Invitational with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of Cal Poly on Saturday. The Huskers (4-1) were on top of their game by posting a hitting percentage higher than .300 for the first time this season. Their .348 marked their best performance since they hit .386 against Colorado at home last season. NU opened the tournament Friday by beating Brigham Young. Nebraska's Hannah Werth led all attackers with 12 kills while hitting .333. Kayla...

Green, Lee and Martinez all likely to play
Who's the starting quarterback? The starter knows. So, probably, do many of his teammates. The rest of us will find out for sure Saturday night at 6:10 when Nebraska takes the field against Western Kentucky. The competition for NU's starting quarterback job among senior returning starter Zac Lee, sophomore Cody Green and redshirt freshman Taylor Martinez has played out just as coach Bo Pelini planned — in private. Martinez off-limits, but coaches are sure talking
Without solid information, there’s always speculation. And this week, with no announcement of Nebraska’s starting quarterback, speculation has focused on Taylor Martinez, the redshirt freshman. We’ve not heard all preseason from the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Californian, since NU rules stipulate that freshmen are off-limits to the media until they’ve been tested in a game. But coaches have sure talked about Martinez of late, and it sounds like he may take the first snap...

NU survives shaky start to top BYU
Another sluggish start, another slugger’s finish. The No. 7 Nebraska volleyball team dropped its opening set against Brigham Young Friday night before pulling out a 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15 win at the BYU Invitational. The Huskers improved to 3-1 on the season, wearing down the Cougars and quieting a rowdy crowd of 2,096 during BYU’s home opener. During set one, Nebraska gave away points on five errors to help BYU jump out to a 10-6 lead.

Carl Pelini is confident in Nebraska's depth
Dealt two major blows in just over two weeks, the Nebraska linebacker corps easily could be left in shambles with the season set to start Saturday night. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini on Friday saw it differently. Pelini told a Big Red Breakfast crowd that linebackers such as Lavonte David, Eric Martin, Mathew May, Alonzo Whaley, Thomas Grove and Graham Stoddard will be asked to keep the position strong in the absence of Will Compton and Sean Fisher.

WKU at NU: 2-minute drill
There's been lots of talk about NU being more physical up front, and what better way to prove it than pounding the football at an undersized defensive line. The Huskers started last season by running for 259 yards on Florida Atlantic, but then added just 136 and 133 against two other Sun Belt opponents. Western Kentucky gave up 5.6 yards per carry and 244.8 per game a year ago, so there are going to be holes.
